Day 15 – Staying with friends in Bejing

It’s funny but after over 2 weeks in China I’ve seen so much. What I hadn’t seen though was an actual house. Lots of apartments, but seriously, not one single house.

When we arrived at our friends last night, I was so shocked to see their house. It is so not what I was expecting. 2 living rooms, dining room, breakfast kitchen, 5 bedrooms – one is used as an office, 4 have en-suite and the master has a walk in wardrobe which is bigger than the dining room at home and a fantastic, enormous bathroom, area for gym and a balcony overlooking the front living room. If that wasn’t enough it has a double garage and a basement where they have a full size pool table, Darts board, bar, lounge area and even space for a full drum kit. To put the icing on the cake it also has a large garden. It is definitely a dream house.

This morning they have taken us to Hong Qiao, or as it’s also known, the pearl market. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was enormous, and simply sold everything.

We wanted a handbag for a gift and a cap for hubby! What we ended up with was 2 bags, iPod headphones, cap, T-shirt, 4 scarfs and a camera lens! If we had more money, we could have bought so much more !

Afterwards we went in search of tea. If you read my previous blogs you will know that I’d been to some tea places with the tour but the prices were too high for me to justify buying them. Our friends knew of a road full of tea suppliers. We only went to one of the malls, but that was enough. I’ve never seen so many places that sell tea. Everyone was so so friendly.

Our friends wanted to try Lychee tea. They were more than happy to give us a taste. It wasn’t for me as far too sweet, and for me it tasted like liquorice. They bought some and at 80 yuan for 500 grams it was a bargain. For £1O they have enough tea to last years.

The initial place didn’t have the chrysanthemum tea I wanted, but they took us to another one that did. Again they happily made us some to try. I loved it. So light and refreshing. I bought 500 grams for less than £20. As you reuse the leaves multiple times, it is going to last years.

Wandering around the mall, and when I say mall I have to point out it’s very basic, we looked at teapots and tea caddies. I ended up buying 2 tins for less than 50p and a beautiful chinese tea set. I have no clue how I’m going to get this all home.

It’s been a brilliant day and so different. We have been to places where the locals shop. We have also learnt there are 2 prices. One for tourists and the other for locals! My friend got us some amazing deals.

This evening the boys are playing pool before firing up the braai. I decide to throw some darts. I’m trying to think when the last time was that I played. I think it must be 35 years! I’m very pleased when I get 4 bullseyes!

I’m so glad we added these extra days on with friends as we are seeing another part of China and I’m still loving it.

Dinner was fabulous. Steak, jacket potato and salad. It was just what I needed.

We sat in the garden chilling before heading to bed.

So, there have been some things ticked off, I really need to start doing a few more!  I will keep you posted!!

Best Ever April Fool

I have just seen the best April Fool ever!

I was watching Holly & Phil whilst at the gym, as is my usual daily routine. I arrived at the cross trainer just as they were talking to the husband of someone they had given a make-over to! I had missed the start as I only go to the gym in my lunch hour.

The bit I caught was that this lady was going to her first every school reunion. She was really nervous about what to wear. It was also their 25th Wedding Anniversary. @Lisa Snowdon was providing the wardrobe makeover whilst a hairdresser and makeup artist did the rest.

I absolutely love Lisa Snowdon. In fact if you read one of my previous blogs, you will know I would love her to give me a makeover to! Well, I did! I was mentally crossing that one off my list!

https://bit.ly/2OFtMsF

What I like about Lisa is her dress style. She always makes them look a million dollars. She herself is I think the iconic style queen. She has a figure like mine, and I always aspire to be like here, hence why she is on my list!

As the lady in question walked on, my jaw dropped! I almost fell off the cross trainer. She was wearing this very tight, pink velvety dress. It was above the knee with white cowboy boots! Nothing wrong with either in the right context. If that wasn’t bad enough, her eyes were very dark and smokey and her hair, although not offensive in its own right, didn’t look right!

She looked absolutely awful. In fact as she walked on the phrase that popped into my head was ‘mutton dressed up as lamb’!

As they revealed the look to her, she looked in horror at her reflection. Tears came into her eyes. Holly and Phil were prompting her for her opinion. At first Holly was excited for her, but then she realised she didn’t like the look. She asked if they could stop filming, but they continued. I was screaming at them to stop filming her.

As Phil went to get some tissues, Holly came to console her, offering her to go downstairs to look at other things in the wardrobe.

Phil then announces there was a further surprise! A day trip in London, including dinner at the Ivy, the London Eye, etc. That a car was waiting to take them now. Phil suggested she see how she feels after her day out!

The camera follows them to the car. You can still hear her distraught about the outfit. Holly is beside herself.

As they watch the car pulls off it crashes!

OMG, I nearly fell off the cross trainer!

Holly is in bits. Phil is also really concerned. And then it happens! Phil announces its a complete April Fool! The whole thing was to set Holly up! The couple were actors and the car a stunt car!

Absolutely brilliant! I was completely taken in. Holly’s reaction was priceless too. She is such a good sport! (Meeting them is also on my list).

My faith is now totally restored in Lisa Snowdon! How could anyone of us have believed she would have made such a bad job! I’m still laughing hours later!

Best prank ever! Well done @thismorning

How to cope with your changing dress size without breaking the bank

So you have started your weight loss journey and the inches are coming down.
You put on that favourite outfit and woo hoo its too big. How good does that feel? Amazing, I know! Whilst this is fantastic there is also this little thought in your head! You can’t keep wearing your old clothes without looking like a clown, but you don’t want to spend a lot of money on new clothes as you still have more weight to lose.
I had a wardrobe full of Levi jeans, Monsoon, Wallis and Next dresses and blouses and skirts. When I started my journey the plan was to be able to get into these comfortably! What actually happened was that I lost more weight than I expected and now they were too big!
I work in an office and meeting external customers frequently, so had to dress smart. I wanted to still look good at work and in my casuals, but didn’t want to spend a fortune as I wasn’t sure what my final size was going to be.
I was sat at home one morning watching This Morning. Trinny Woodall was doing her usual slot on what to wear. Today she had mens outfits. One of the models was wearing a lovely brown trench coat. I was so shocked when she said it was from a web site callled Everything5pound.com. So was Phillip Schofield. He even tried it on he was so impressed with it.
I’d seen the odd advert for this company but at £5 an item I thought it must just be tat! This now put it into a different light so decided to explore it more. That was on 20 January 2017 and I have never looked back.
So who are they?
They are a web based company that sell good quality clothing for men, women and kids as well as accessories, footwear and home ware. The vast majority of its stock is as you would guess £5. Sometimes they have sales and you can get an even better bargain for £2.50! Recently they have introduced a designer range.
Sizes vary and go up to plus size too.
The clothes are of good quality and most of the ones I have bought have been ex high street labels. They cut out the name of the store but if you know your labels you will easily recognise the store they originally came from.
I don’t mind the labels being cut out as I do it with some of the clothes I buy from other chain stores and they itch me.
You pay a delivery charge depending on how much you order but when you calculate the cost per outfit its still amazing value.
When I decided to write this blog I looked back at my order history with them. I couldn’t quite believe how much I had bought.
In the early days it was to buy clothes so I could wear them to keep me going as my weight came off, but I have to say that since losing weight and being happy with the size I am, I am still using them.
What it has meant is that I could still look good as my size changed without breaking the bank.
These two items were on my first order and have since made their way to the charity bag as they no longer fit me. I only got a little wear out of them, but knowing they only cost me £10 for the 2 meant that I didn’t worry about letting them go.
Below is an array of other outfits I bought from the site over last year:-
Sadly a couple more of them have now been placed in the charity bag such as the Caramel Gilet.
Its one thing seeing pictures online but another seeing what they look like in reality so here is a selection of the outfits on me too for you to see:
I have saved the best bargain of all to last. My favourite outfit from this site has to be a dress I bought for a wedding last September. I would normally spend about £100 on a dress for such an occasion. I was looking though their website and came across this dress:-
I really liked the look of it and thought it would look good for the wedding, so ordered it. Oh my, I absolutely loved it when I tried it on. I wore it for the day of the wedding and got so many remarks. I never told anyone until the end of the night when I told a friend who was with me. She could not believe that it only cost me £5. I felt a million dollars in it.
It just goes to show that you don’t need to spend a fortune to look good.
I still go to the high street for clothes, but this site is still top on my list of go to places.
What about their sizing?
I have to say apart from a couple of items, everything has fit me perfectly. The customer service is excellent. The items that haven’t fitted, I have sent back and they have either exchanged them for another size or given me an immediate refund.
What about quality?
As you can see I have bought many items. I have even bought some for my husband too. I have only ever had 1 item that had a faulty button. I sent it back but sadly they couldn’t replace it so gave me a refund.
Are there any negatives to the site?
As with everything there is! It’s that they can’t guarantee to have your size! Because of they way they purchase the items from their suppliers they can’t guarantee to get the items in every size.
Their website is good though as you can filter by size, colour etc so you don’t have to be disappointed that your favourite item isn’t in stock.
How do you get to know what’s in stock?
They email you frequently of their new arrivals. I love seeing the latest stock. Get in quick though so you are not disappointed.
Final thing to say!
Give it a go, you won’t regret it!
Happy shopping and good luck with your weight loss journey!
